FRUIT IN SEASON

Read Psalm 1

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly… His delight is in the law of the LORD and in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1: 1a, 2-3 NKJV

God's Word never goes out of vogue for Christians. It is relevant for every stage of life, and is the source of life itself. Believers who ask the Lord for wisdom with their children will find it, for he has promised, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. (James 1:5-6 NKJV) Then when the children are grown, God's Word says that those parents will still bear fruit in old age and be fresh and flourishing. (Psalm 92:14 NKJV)

Lord, I want to meditate daily on Your Word so that I can sort out the many voices of advice that the world gives. Only by knowing the truth can I recognize error, and find that narrow way that leads to life. Help me to influence our children so that they too will "delight in the law of the Lord." and avoid the "counsel of the ungodly."

Thoughts On Blogging

I have been looking through my personal journal over the past few months, since I have entered the world of blogging. Certainly it has been a blessing, far beyond anything I expected, and it has also been a challenge as I have interacted with those who oppose the message of God’s Word.

I thought I would share some of my entries in the hope that it may encourage other Christians to step out and share their faith. Some of these entries are direct from Scripture on a day when I needed it, and some are from writings by Oswald Chambers.

• Jeremiah 20:9 “His word was in my heart like a burning fire shut up in my bones. I was weary of holding it back and I could not.”

• 2 Timothy 1:2 “The gifts and calling of God are irrevocable.”

• Jeremiah 10:23 “O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; it is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”

• Oswald Chambers – “There is no responsibility on you for the work; the only responsibility you have is to keep in living constant touch with God, and to see that you allow nothing to hinder your cooperation with Him.”

• Oswald Chambers – “God engineers everything; wherever He puts us our one great aim is to pour out our whole hearted devotion to Him in that particular work.”

• Oswald Chambers – “Spiritually we cannot measure our life by success, but only by what God pours through us; and we cannot measure that at all.”

• Acts 18:10 – The Lord said to Paul, “Dismiss your fears; go on speaking and do not give up, I am with you and no one shall attack you or injure you; for I have many people in this city.”

• Acts 11:23 – About Barnabas - “He encouraged them all to remain with fixed resolve, faithful to the Lord.”

• Acts 4:20b Weymouth – “As for us, what we have seen and heard we cannot help speaking about.”

The Promise of Wisdom

Ron finished his bachelor's degree at Cal State Fullerton before we started our family. He was accepted for graduate studies at UCSD at La Jolla, where our daughter was born just prior to our third anniversary. So thrilled to have a precious little baby girl, we took her to see relatives in Los Angeles.

One of my Mother-in-law's friends, who was struggling with a rebellious teenage daughter, made the comment, "There is no way you can know how this baby will turn out. Just look at all the Christians whose kids have turned out badly." I don't remember what I said to her, but I am sure I was hyperventilating! The next day as I opened my Bible for devotions I prayed, "Lord, I will do whatever you ask me to do, but you have got to promise me that this little girl will grow up to love and serve you."

I opened my Bible and there in front of me was the answer: James 1:4-7 "If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways." (emphasis mine)

God himself was telling me that I was required to believe that He would give me wisdom! Obviously, this wisdom was going to come from His Holy Word.
